FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • To be eligible to play Travel Basketball at St. Edward CYO you must be a parishioner of St. Edward (located on Jackson Ave in Syosset) or live within the parish boundaries or an adjacent parish which does not host a CYO travel basketball program.  The parish boundaries are set by CYO Long Island central office and not by St. Edward CYO.
  • Selection to a travel team will be determined following tryouts.  Tryouts will be scheduled for mid to late September and tryout schedules will be posted www.stedwardscyo.org.  All players who have registered will be notified once tryouts are scheduled.
  • Please complete your registration at www.stedwardscyo.org before tryouts.  Registration fee is $250 and is fully refundable for any player that is not selected for a travel team following tryouts.
  • Practice days and times will not be established until after tryouts and team selections.  Practice schedules are prioritized based on coach and gym availability.
  • Travel teams are either coached by a parent volunteer or a paid coach, if a parent volunteer is not available.  The fee for a paid coach is in addition to the $250 registration fee and is determined between the coach and parents.
  • Schedules for travel basketball are published by CYO Long Island.  Games are typically played on Saturdays or Sundays.  Please note that CYO Long Island does not accommodate game reschedule requests once the schedule is published, but each coach has the ability to note certain schedule restrictions when registering the team.
  • Typically half of the games will be “home games” and played at St. Edward’s gym (or a SCSD district gym) and the other half will be “away games” and played at other parishes gyms in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.  CYO Long Island does make every effort to minimize the travel distance for games.
  • CYO Long Island has A/B/C divisions for teams in grades 5th – 12th, with “A” being highly competitive.  Each coach has the ability to decide which division to register their team in.  Teams in grades 3rd – 4th do not have different divisions and plays with modified rules to account for any differences in skill levels.
  • St. Edward CYO is waiting for updated guidance from CYO Long Island regarding any COVID-related requirements for players and spectators.  Once received, St. Edward CYO will notify all registered players and post the information at www.stedwardscyo.org.
  • After the registration is closed and teams are formed a link will be sent out to each player so they can purchase their uniform from the St. Edward store. Only shorts and jersey is required to be purchased to be eligible to play
  • CYO has very specific rules when it comes to numbers on the uniform, Uniforms CAN NOT contain the number 6,7,8, or 9 so we will likely designate the numbers to each player
