Welcome St. Edwards CYO Girls Volleyball Page Our CYO program is designed to provide all girls residing within the St. Edwards community with the opportunity to participate in an organized volleyball program. The foundation of the program is to promote and teach volleyball skills in a Christian environment that emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play. We welcome all girls in our community from grades 5th through 12th. Below is a description of our program. Travel Program The Travel program is designed for players in grades 5th through 12th who are looking to participate in a more competitive environment. There is normally one travel team per grade, but this year we have two 8th grade Travel teams (A division). Players are selected to teams by try-outs. Teams in the Travel program must adhere to the rules set forth by the Nassau-Suffolk County CYO. The Travel teams will play teams from other Catholic parishes in Nassau County. Travel teams play a 10 game schedule followed by playoffs for the top teams in each division. There is normally one practice and one game per week although there could be multiple games in a week. The link to Nassau/Suffolk CO is: cyons.org. Facilities All of our practices are held at the St. Edwards gym. All teams had 5 games at home and 5 games away at various parishes that participate in the CYO program. Coaches All coaches are volunteers from our community. New coaches are always needed and welcomed for teams at all levels. Coaching is a wonderful way to build relationships with the kids in our community. Coaching experience is necessary, so if you have knowledge of volleyball and want to teach to the girls, that would be great. Coaches are required to complete a background check form and attend Virtus Training. New coaches also need to attend a sanctioned workshop through CYO of Nassau Suffolk. Registration Registration is a mail-in process. The 2-page registration form is available by clicking on the attachment link below entitled “2011 Volleyball Registration”. Please accurately complete the entire form (One form per player). Please sign the “Parental Agreement” on second page. Registrations will not be accepted without this signature.
