Welcome to St. Edward’s CYO Basketball Page. Our CYO program is designed to provide all children residing within the St. Edwards community with the opportunity to participate in an organized basketball program. The foundation of the program is to promote & teach basketball skills in a Christian environment that emphasizes sportsmanship & fair play. We welcome all children in our community from grades 1 through 12. Below is a description of each of our programs. Clinic Program The Clinic Program introduces our 1st & 2nd grade children (Boys & Girls) to the game of basketball. The Clinic, offered one night per week, provides one hour of instructional basketball (no games) per week. Please note that the Clinic is available to only children in grades-1 & 2. There are no exceptions to this rule. The Clinic is expected to run from mid-September and to be completed by Christmas. The fee is $70 per 1st grade player & $100 per 2nd grade player. Intramural Program The Intramural Program provides children in grades 3 through 9 with the opportunity to play games in a structured league setting. Players are selected onto various teams via a draft. Each team will play approximately 10 games during the season – normally one game per week. Most games are played on Saturdays. Each team will also practice one night per week for one hour. The Intramural Program will run from November through March. Each player will receive a team jersey. The fee is $140 per player. Travel Program The Travel program is designed for players in grades 4 – 12 who are looking to participate in a more competitive environment. There is normally one travel team per grade. Players are selected to teams by try-outs. Teams in the Travel program must adhere to the rules set forth by the Nassau-Suffolk County CYO. The Travel teams will play teams from other Catholic parishes in Nassau or Suffolk County. Travel teams play a 12 game schedule followed by playoffs for the top teams in each division. There is normally one practice and one game per week although there could be multiple games in a week. Facilities Many of our games & practices are held at the St. Edwards gym. Additionally, we also utilize several of the Syosset public schools for the Intramural & Clinic Programs. Coaches All coaches are volunteers from our community. New coaches are always needed & welcomed for teams at all levels. Coaching is a wonderful way to build relationships with the kids in our community. No prior coaching experience is necessary. Please consider coaching to help keep our program strong. Coaches are required to complete a Background Check Form & attend Virtus Training. Registration Registration is a mail-in process. The 2-page registration form is available by clicking on the link below entitled: ‘2011-2012 Basketball Registration’. Please accurately complete the entire form. (One Form per player) Please sign the ‘Parental Agreement’ on second page. Registrations will not be accepted without this signature. Both pages must be returned to the address listed on the form.
